How to Install MacOS Catalina 10.15 on an Unsupported Mac, iMac, Mac Pro or Mac Mini in 2021

My initial motivation for wanting to upgrade my 2012 iMac was to install KVM which is part of the Linux distribution (which OSX is also based on). However, after some exploration, the final conclusion was that the Virtio drivers (virtual drivers required by the KVM to talk to the Mac hardware) were not available at this point, so you will get stuck in the Windows installation process because the installer cannot even see the hard disk due to the lack of the disk driver). There were some posts that said that Fedora did have a package which I tried but could not make it work. Anyway, if your interest is just to overcome the limitation of installing newer OSX versions on old Macs, do read on.

The Youtube link above is just one quick compilation done by someone with similar thinking based on upgrade to Catalina, which I had to do for some KVM work (see other posts).
